“When Should You Worry?” focuses on why teenagers are suicidal by exploring possible reasons that drive these teens to do such a thing. Their main reasons are depression. They believe that one out of 12 teens suffer from depression before of the age 18 because of puberty and this makes them more prone to suicide. They suggest medication for teenagers that present symptoms like sudden withdraw from family, friends and school. (Bostic & Miller)  In “About a Mountain”, John D’Agata briefly discusses suicide when he discovers that a teenage boy has jumped from the Stratosphere in Las Vegas. The causes for him to commit suicide are unknown but Jeff Bostic and Michael Miller would argue that the main causes that lead this young boy to jump would be depression due to his age. Bostic and Miller would tell D’Agata that Levi, the suicidal boy, jumped because he was struggling with a sexual problem, a painful breakup or a humiliating disagreement with an adult that lead him to become suicidal. This article supports my argument in why do teens commit suicide. It makes the assumption of one of the main reasons this occurs. I think that D’Agata would agree that Levi’s unfamiliar behavior was because of depression.
