Rocheleau, Courtney A., Gregory D. Webster, Angela Bryan, and Jacquelyn Frazier. "Moderators of the Relationship between Exercise and Mood Changes: Gender, Exertion Level, and Workout Duration." Psychology & Health 19.4 (2004): 491-506. Print.
The study “Moderators of the Relationship between Exercise and Mood Changes: Gender, Exertion Level, and Workout Duration” by Rocheleau explains how exercise is important for maintaining not only your physical health, but your mental health as well. This reading elaborates on how exercise makes your body release endorphins and gives you sense of well-being, resulting in you having better mental health and lower depression. Studies show that approximately 29% of Americans get no physical activity at all and only 25% of them get the recommended amount of exercise. I think that we can reduce depression in America by simply getting more people to be active. Exercise could be the key to having Americans with happier moods. If you asked Courtney Rocheleau how you could make yourself happier, she would tell you to stay in shape because healthier people are happier people. I will use this source to teach my readers what they can do to better their overall moods. I want to enlighten them to the fact that fitness can further them into becoming happier people. Katie McLaughlin would argue with Rocheleau because McLaughlin claims that relationships are the answer to happiness. Both of these writers talk about why some people are happy and others are depressed but they come from different perspectives. McLaughlin’s study "Childhood Social Environment, Emotional Reactivity to Stress, and Mood and Anxiety Disorders Across the Life Course" describes how the traumas and stress people experienced in childhood effect how they behave as adults while Rocheleau goes into detail on how staying in shape is the secret to being happier. Each of these sources share valuable information, but argue with each other. Rocheleau shares information with the Blue Busters “17 WAYS TO FIGHT DEPRESSION NATURALLY” article. Both readins tell how happiness follows healthiness. These sources recommend steady diets and work out sessions for enhancing a positive mind set. The big difference between these articles is that the Blues Busters talks more about nutrition while Rocheleau focuses on the study of cardiovascular exercise. But overall both of these articles have the same idea: better health equals happiness.
