In “Understanding Suicide Risk: Identification of High-Risk Groups during High-Risk Times” the authors talk about the tasks of assessing whether someone is a suicide risk. It touches on the personal demographic groups that are most common in people that are suicide risks and have completed suicide. These personal demographics include males, divorced adults, and Caucasians. It also talks about how these arent the only things that can make someone a suicide risk. There are other factors that play in and can even negate the personal demographics. It all links together and plays a part in the bigger picture. If you have a psychiatric diagnosis and life events also make someone a risk for suicide. The article in a whole is a study that compares the psychological autopsy (which is an autopsy of the brain) of 148 people that died of suicide to 257 adults that died from accidents and health issues. This source adds scientific fact to the topic in which I’m researching. It brings light to real issues and how even something that seems so simple can add to whether someone is considered a risk for suicide. This compliments the article “The Acquired Capability for Suicide: A Comparison of Suicide Attempters, Suicide Ideators, and Non-suicidal Controls” it talks about the chemical imbalance that someone experiences when they’re about to commit suicide. This article helps me to understand the things that bring someone to want to commit suicide and feel that it is the only option. I plan to use this source as a scientific guideline to understand what people go through. I feel that this article will be very helpful in pulling all of my research together.
