Dave Harley, Sandra Winn, Sarah Pemberton, and Paula Wilcox. “Using Texting to Support Students’ Transition to University.” Innovations in Education and Teaching International Volume 44. Issue 3. August 2007. p.229-241
In Harley’s study “Using Texting to Support Students’ Transition to University”, he shows a new way that a texting program is being used on a college campus. The program helps college students adjust to the new life style change and feel a sense of belonging. Other authors, such as Carr, feel that new technologies like texting are not that good for our mind and are changing the way that we think. Carr feels that some of the new technologies are making us dumb, which is the opposite of Harley. In this study texting helps the students stay on task and gives them a sense of belonging on the university campus. It shows a positive of the information revolution that we are currently going through. This source counterparts that texting is bad for us and is making us dumb. It shows that a text could really help a person out in their school work and in their social atmosphere at collage. Harley does a good job of coming up with a way to help new college students to transition to a big university, All of which he is able to do through simple text messages.
