Zengotita, Thomas. "The Numbing of the American Mind." Harper's Magazine Apr. 2002. Web.Thomas Zengotita presents an argument surrounding the events of September 11th, claiming that media is causing us to become numb to what is really going on. September 11th becomes the example of what happens when we are repeatedly shown the bad things on the news, but then forced to get over it; and in reaction the same consequence has happened with 9/11. The overall point is that media is showing us what is acceptable, and being shown so many times that it creates a way of life that we live without being aware. In contrast to Carr's article, Zengotita does not say that media is something we need to rid ourselves of, or that is affecting the way we write and read. Zengotita is focusing on our thought process, which goes along in relation to my argument about the twitter page "@FirstWorldPains". This page is a prime example of what is happening to our thought process and how seeing things repeatedly in the media convinces us that is the reality.
