James Hartley and his associates claim that the effects of dictating into a voice recognition software has a greater impact on the writer than it does on the writers work. This is so because it alleviates the writer of the physical demands of writing that could be cumbersome. Hartley also notes minor changes in the length of the sentences as well as the increase of "chattiness" of the dictations compared to that of typed works. A text being more chatty can possibly remove some metal blocks of typing on a keyboard, because their ideas would be able to flow easily, as if they were in a conversation. These findings resonate soundly with my topic due to fact that my topic is to discuss the effects of dictation software on the way people think and work. The authors state that while no major changes took place in the writing style of person between dictations and typing. The main point Hartley brings up is that dictating is less physically demanding then typing. This article relates to my all of my other sources, because they all show the impact of technology on the way we work and interact in a modern society . New technology, in particular is more effective in accomplishing this task then that of previous generations. For example this source relates to Judy Perks Colloquium, because she used Dragon Naturally speaking to take tests because she is dyslexic. While writing and typing places no extreme physical demands on the writer, implications for the effect of physically handicapped people are astounding. For example people who were restricted by their lack of certain physical abilities will now be able to use a word processing software without the need of a key board. I intend to use this source on more of a factual base ( for statistics and data) mainly due to the fact that there was an experiment done that proves the alleviation of many physical aspects of typing.
